We are extremely lucky to be on a starling roosting path. They arrive from October and murmurate daily until the start of March. We can set our clocks by them. They pass to roost about 4pm every evening and then we can expect a 'flyby' at 7.45am in the morning.
Starlings gather in massive, mesmerising flocks at dusk during winter to roost. There are literally thousands of strarlings. The starlings fly in swirling and shape shifting patterns to confuse predators and provide warmth and social information to each other.
This is happening at Wild Valley Huts, Maengwynedd, Powys. Just a typical evening between October and March! For the video, look at our Instagram account @wildvalleyhuts (sorry seems to big a file to download onto here).
If you would like to see this amazing natural phenomena, book a stay between October and March!
